Next step is to hang onto the rig, while lowering the safety bar into place for the ride to the top. The bar locks her in and there's zero danger of falling.

Colin and Toby loading "Sandy" on the lift. The rig has a bottle jack under it that lifts the passenger up to loading height, and a second person helps to lift the rig into place on the seat.

To get a bit more comfortable with the lift, we practiced with "Sandy-the-Sandbag" as a passenger first. This is Sandy and I on the lift for the first time.

Snuck in a few big-kid runs while Addy got some lodge time with Gramma and Papa.

The best thing about Maine Adaptive? It's a family affair! Colin, Ken, and I all received training and support about how to ski safely with Addy. Colin practiced with Sandy-the-Sandbag as a passenger in Addy's rig. ;-)

Addy's first chairlift ride. This is the most terrifying part for me. Taking her downhill feels comfortable, but getting on and off the lift....EEK!

Our family's first day on snow TOGETHER thanks to instructor Toby!

Much needed snack break for our over-stimulated little adventurer.

Getting tucked into her gear and ready for her lesson

Here we go! Trying out Addy's ski rig for the first time. Her rig is a bi-ski that has two outriggers (small skis) for stability. The two teathers attach at the back allow me to ski behind her and control her ski rig as we go down the hill.

Addy's first run up the magic carpet (basically a conveyor belt) so we could ski down the bunny hill at Sugarloaf. Instructor Toby was wonderful with us!

This picture was taken Saturday morning at the Adaptive Outdoor Education Center. The AEOC provides accessible lodging for families participating in adaptive ski lessons at Sugarloaf. Addy was excited!!

Addy trying out her sit-ski, purchased from Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation on Christmas day! Addy's equipment was retired from Maine Adaptive's collection and was purchased at an incredible bargain! So excited to get her on snow WITH us!
